What is home theater? In it's simplest form, home theater consists of audio and video equipment set up in a home, with the goal of making it seem more like a movie theater. Traditionally, a basic home theater will consist of at least a 27" TV, 6 speakers (Left Front, Right Front, Center, Left Surround, Right Surround, Subwoofer), some type of amplification (usually an A/V receiver), and a video source (a DVD player or a HiFi VCR). Our definition however, differs from the traditional one. We feel this setup provides you with a TV and Surround Sound, but you miss out on the total viewing experience with just a TV. We even feel that a large, bulky big screen TV does not give you the same type of 'movie theater' feel as a front projection system. Our systems go a step farther and include a projection system to allow you to view your movies as well as feel them.

What's the difference between home theater in a box, and the home theaters Digital Home Cinemas offers? We feel the home theater in a box systems are not really home theater systems. These only usually include 5 speakers and a subwoofer, a receiver, and maybe a DVD player. This to us is really Surround Sound in a box and does not provide the full realm of experience that is achievable with our systems.

How should I position my home theater speakers? Basically, the center channel speaker should be either directly above, or directly below your viewing area. The front and left front speakers should be positioned at 45° angles pointing towards the viewers. The tweeters should approximately the same height as the viewers ears. The surround speakers should be placed behind the viewers, also positioned at 45° angles pointing towards the viewers. For the optimum listening experience, they should be placed a couple feet above the listeners, angled downward in order to immerse the watchers in sound. A subwoofer can be placed in a number of areas, but most people like it to be out of sight. They work well in the corners of rooms.

Are there advantages of owning a projector system instead a big screen TV? The main disadvantage of a big screen TV is the size of the unit. You have very limited options when it comes to where you would like to place it in your home. It is also very difficult to move. A projector on the other hand, can either be mounted on the ceiling and take up no extra space in the room, or can be placed on a coffee table or stand in the room, again taking up little space. You can also put the projector away in a case or closet if you would like. Depending on what type of screen you choose, you can either have one that is permanently mounting on the wall, one with a tripod that can be stored away, or one with a pull down or electronic screen. Each of these takes up little space and can all be hidden away. A projector can also be taken on vacations, taken to parties, and just about anywhere else you would like to take them. All in all, for features, space and portability a projector is certainly the way to go.
